Unmistakably Lotus
Last year Lotus and Emerson Fittipaldi captured the Formula 1 Grand Prix Championship by an overwhelming point margin. For Fittipaldi, a 25-year-old Brazilian driver, it was his first World Championship, but the title was no stranger to Lotus. Since 1963 Lotus had won the Championship four times. Fittipaldi’s victory made it five World Championships in the past ten years — an accomplishment unprecedented in Formula 1 racing history.
But Lotus builds more than race cars. They also build cars that are licensed for the street and these are unmistakably Lotus.
That unmistakable Lotus touch comes from only one man, Colin Chapman. And for 1973 Chapman has engineered and designed a new Lotus . . . the Europa Special.
With the engine located behind the driver and powered by 113 horsepower, the Europa Special offers you the closest thing to a racing sports car you can buy. The Europa Special is also available with a four or five-speed gearbox.
In addition to its normal range of colors, Lotus is producing a limited run of Specials in the Championship team colors of Black and Gold.

A Living Legend
In April of this year Lotus became the all-time grand prix winner with 50 victories, surpassing Ferrari. For Emerson Fittipaldi it was his third win of the year and his ninth since joining Colin Chapman and his Lotus team in 1970. Last year Fittipaldi and his John Player Special captured the World Championship, the fifth world title for Lotus in the past decade. Fifty grand prix wins and five World Championships is an unprecedented record in the annals of grand prix racing. A living legend.
For 1973 Colin Chapman, Lotus team owner/designer, has engineered and built a new Lotus . . . the Europa Special. A street-legal sports car, unmistakably Lotus.
The Europe's engine is located behind the driver where grand prix cars have it. And the Special's power-to-weight ratio offers sports car enthusiasts the closest performance to a racing sports car you can buy.
In results recently released by the Environmental Protection Agency the Lotus Europa Special averaged 25.2 miles per gallon, making it the most economical sports car available in this country.
For 1973 the Europa Special is available with a 4 or 5-speed gearbox. The new 5-speed box gives a remarkable increase in peak performance at lower revs. In addition to the normal range of colors. Specials are being produced for this country in the World Championship Team colors of Black and Gold.

Lotus Europa Special
Emerson Fittipaldi and his John Player Special from Lotus began the 1973 Grand Prix season right where they finished last season — No. 1. In 1972 Fittipaldi and Lotus were World Champions. They won Grand Prix titles in Spain, Italy, Austria, Belgium and Great Britain, in addition to placing second in South Africa and France.
But by winning the 1972 World Championship for Lotus, Fittipaldi and team owner/designer, Colin Chapman, haven’t become complacent. They captured the first two Grand Prixs of the ’73 season in Argentina and Brazil, with a second place at South Africa. Lotus continues to be the winner’s choice.
Lotus has created a winner’s choice in the personal-car market as well as on the race track. For 1973 Colin Chapman has engineered and designed a new Lotus . . . the Europa Special. A street-legal sports car that is unmistakably Lotus.
