  • Brand: Glanz
  • Condition: Rare Glanz Micro T-M Mark II monocular and components for telephotography, made by Kanto Optical, an amazing piece of useful, vintage, multi-purpose technology. All parts were made in Japan. Monocular appears to be in excellent condition. All pieces appear to be in great shape, threads, etc. all only lightly used and everything well-cared for. Monocular case's zipper is coming off on one side, but it still works and seems closed when zipped up. Cases have other wear, but aren't bad at all for their age. No lens in the main adapter piece (am selling some separately). Instruction manual has condition issues, and (useful) annotations, but fully readable. I'm not an expert and not sure if anything else is missing or incorrect, but this collection is pretty complete and in great shape. Note: also selling some close-up lenses as a separate lot. Please see all photos for full condition.

    Description

This is a fascinating and working vintage piece of camera equipment, a Glanz
    Micro T-M Mark II
telephoto set for both close-up and distance photography. Made by Kanto Optical, known for binoculars sold under the name "Kanto coated optics" and Glanz, this piece was made in Japan in the mid-1960s. The instructions explain how to use it for long range photography, and also effectively as a microscope that takes pictures! ("You can take a wonderful microphotograph of high definition and magnification by attaching a camera to the conta thread of Micro T-M II ... Here also, the Zoom Teleshot Adapter is used... The resultant magnification on negative film will increase to approximately 63 x and 238 X"). The instruction manual has valuable technical info, like the adapter ring table, not to mention cultural interest and is a nice vintage piece itself.
Everything seems only gently used and very well-cared for. Threads look great, no damage, just minor wear. Lenses have no apparent issues, and the magnification is powerful just looking through it.

    "
Glanz has been noted as the name on a monocular and camera adaptors from Kanto Optical, Japan, for use as a variable long focus and close-up device for SLR's. (noted 05/1964). They are well described in the Silber Catalogue for 1966-7. There were 4 uses for a monocular and adaptor: (a) as a wide angle telescope for 7x; (b) as a 7x telephoto converter for an existing camera requiring only an extra adaptor ring; (c) as a variable power 400-1000mm used with the special Glanz extension tubes which were a low cost separate purchase; and (d) as a variable telephoto lens for 350-1000mm with the teleshot adaptor. This was an elaborately engraved adjustable unit with optical adjustment. Naturally quite a range of camera adaptors were made to link the units up."
