    Description

I could not find ANY example of this little microscope anywhere online.  If anyone knows the origin of this piece, please contact me.  It is indeed tiny at only 2" tall and the base is about 2" in diameter.  Appears to be made of a bake-a-lite type material.  Sold as is for a collectible.
UPDATE: I recently heard from another eBayer and here is what I learned:
    Hi,
You have a Bausch & Lomb "American Agricultural Microscope" which was sold for forty cents as a premium for subscribers of American Agriculturist magazine in the nineteenth century and made from gutta percha. The printing on the base is hard to read on your pics but if it says "pat. applied for" it is pre-1878 and the pat. was granted in Jan. of 1878. There should be a glass plate under the two clamps on the base to hold the specimen. There is no mirror and would use ambient light to illuminate the specimen from above or through the opening in the base from below. Though these are desirable for microscope collectors I do think your asking price is high, especially without the accompanying box which was well made and had nice lettering on the top and said "from Orange Judd Co." which distributed the scope."
