Vintage Wetzlar Polarizer or Polarizing Lens in Original Box

Description

This auction is for a vintage Leitz Wetzlar polarizing lens in its original box.
I know very little about this device. It is an accessory for a microscope.
I believe it is used to cast an adjustable polarized filter onto the observed image from the microscope
and that polarized view can enhance the resulting image to reveal things that were not apparent before.
Based on my research it appears to be extremely rare.
I could not find any other examples of this model and only one or two examples of other microscope polarizing adapters.
I found this group of objects at an estate sale of a scientist who worked on the
Manhattan Project
.
The gentleman appeared to live alone and was very much still involved in science, specifically microscopes.
It appears to be in great condition. I’m really impressed with its original box including the lathe spun resting place for one of the parts.
If the box is any indication, it looks like there may be one little lens paddle missing.
I cannot confirm.
